Fire service approve BeltUpp

By // Hannah

We have contacted the fire service and their thoughts are as below:

‘First of all may I congratulate you on your product; anything that makes a child safer in a vehicle involved in a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) is always of benefit.

On your questions about would the added belt cause the Fire Service concerns or problems the answer is it would not cause us any concerns at all.

The reason being, it is a standard operating procedure for Fire Fighters in Leicestershire and best practice for other services around the country, to cut the seatbelt on any person (adult or child) they are extricating from a motor vehicle that has been involved in an RTC.

This is firstly to stop the need to reach across the person to locate the seat belt release mechanism. It is also used to indicate to a crash investigator that when the Fire service released the person from the belt, it was being used, this is indicated by leaving the catch in place.

All Fire Fighters carry either a quick release knife or have available a seat belt cutter for this reason and it takes seconds to cut a belt.’
